Welcome! I am Kenneth Woodruff. By day I am a self-employed 3D artist, animator, interactive developer and designer (http://www.grand-unified.net, if you’re curious).

By evening/weekend/between-projects I am a relatively new woodworker, on a self-motivated journey through the pains and passions of hand tool woodworking. This is partially in rebellion against having my eyeballs stuck to a screen all day.

I am currently shopless, which means that I build a lot of strange things to accommodate that limitation.

Thanks for joining me. Please forgive the growing pains as I gear the blog up.

I found your blog from your post on Lumberjocks. I am glad you did that, as I might not have found your site otherwise. It is very nice.

I started a blog on the 2nd of January. I am really enjoying it.

Do you use Google Analytics to track your progress?

    Brian

Thanks Brian! I’m going to read your blog tonight after work (I have a crazy rush project going on right now). :)

I’m using a plugin for WordPress to do the tracking. I’m not sure if there’s an equivalent for your blog software, but I bet there is.

    Kenneth,
Just wanted to leave you a note and tell you that I discovered your blog through someone on our own community for ‘beginning woodworkers’. (http://kregjig.ning.com) There are lots of individuals there who are just starting out and would love to follow along with your blog.

Thanks for the entertaining posts, keep it up!

Thanks Derek! I appreciate the support. There’s just not any information out there for people trying to work without shop space—especially with hand tools. I hope my trials and tribulations can be of use. :)

Yay, another one! Good to see you out here plugging away (unplugging away I guess). I’m in pretty much the same situation as you. Look forward to following your progress!

Thanks Eric, and welcome! Though I would not wish it on anyone, it’s good to see so many people in the same situation. :)

I just discovered your blog from a link that was in an old post on Chris Schwarz’s blog. What you’ve done with your break down workbench and saw bench is AWESOME!. I too am a shopless hand tool woodworker. I have a back patio and a workbench outside that works ok but needs better vices. Also, I’m in New Orleans and it rains a lot, so I’ve been thinking of building a small indoor bench for dovetailing and light planing tasks. You’ve absolutely inspired me. THANKS.
